A Band It is in man’s nature to live in packs. Everything from hunting and gathering food to weddings in some cultures are done in groups. Performing arts is no exception to this axiom of human existence and groups perform together in all fields, be it dance, dramatics or music. Bands have been in existence ever since the beginning of all musical forms with the earliest being in ancient civilizations where people used to sing and make music only for merriment. Today, the bands in existence are money spinning machines for various record labels. They also help unite and bring together various forms of talent in a band to create a totally different and new sound, than the one that they started out individually with. Bands are of different kinds, some involving large number of people, others only a single guy and his computer and his guitar. Generally, bands include a vocalist, a guitarist who forms the back bone of the rhythm element of the band, a bassist and a percussionist or drummer to provide the bass sound and the beats. Each band member is expected to be proficient in his own field and also must have a general opinion or over view of what the other members are doing so as to appreciate their efforts or criticize them and help them improve when needed. A band that makes music must have a direction that is acceptable to all. A band playing metal must be oriented towards the genre and all members must utilize their individual influences to making the band more proficient in the genre of metal music. Any and all creative inputs or criticism must be faced with a sense of optimism and acceptance by the band, and it must be incorporated to make the band better as a whole. |
